On December 18, 2020, in Portland, Oregon, a newly built tiny home village with sleeping pods meant for the homeless was broken into and vandalized. The village consists of 19 sleeping pods (8-by-12 feet) with electricity, heat, built-in beds, as well as a community kitchen, and bathrooms. With $8,000 in damages, this much-anticipated haven for the homeless has had to push back opening to February 1, 2021. Despite the police having no lead on suspects and this slight setback opening, the St. John’s community remains optimistic and excited about the great things this village will bring to the homeless community.
