Sanders becomes an internet sensation as a photo of him on Inauguration Day goes viral and gets photoshopped into countless memes. But what is Sanders doing in this photo that has amused millions of people online? He is sitting down with his arms and legs crossed, wearing large mittens and a face mask.

It’s a simple photo, yes, but with the power of photoshop, it has sparked creativity and humor throughout the nation. On Twitter, hashtags #berniesanders, #berniemittens, and #berniememes are trending.

It has gained so much popularity on social media that perhaps it could be put to some real good. An opportunity too good to pass, Sanders decided to print the viral photo onto sweatshirts to sell online, donating all the proceeds to a Meals on Wheels program in his home state of Vermont.

A successful attempt indeed. Sales have skyrocketed and the sweatshirts are now sold out. The largest Meals on Wheels provider in Vermont, Age Well, said on Twitter they are “BLOWN AWAY by the support for our Meals on Wheels program” from the Bernie sweatshirt sales.

Age Well CEO, Jane Catton, said: “On behalf of all of the area agencies on aging and our partners in the community who help us provide meal services, this is a tremendous gift and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
