Humans have been farming for 10,000 years and over time we have found new ways to create more and better crops efficiently. However, this has come at the “expense of forests, wildlife, water, and the destabilization of the climate” says Loken. But what if there was a way to continue to produce more and better crops even more efficiently while also protecting biodiversity, preserving water, and reducing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions?

On January 6, 2021, violent Trump fanatics stormed the U.S. Capitol to disrupt the Electoral College vote count by a joint session of Congress and stop the officialization of President-elect Joe Biden’s win to keep Trump in office. This violent assault resulted in the evacuation and lockdown of the Capitol, dozens of injuries, and 5 deaths. Hours later, Wednesday evening, after the Capitol was finally secured, Congress reconvened.

On December 18, 2020, in Portland, Oregon, a newly built tiny home village with sleeping pods meant for the homeless was broken into and vandalized. The village consists of 19 sleeping pods (8-by-12 feet) with electricity, heat, built-in beds, as well as a community kitchen, and bathrooms. With $8,000 in damages, this much-anticipated haven for the homeless has had to push back opening to February 1, 2021. Despite the police having no lead on suspects and this slight setback opening, the St. John’s community remains optimistic and excited about the great things this village will bring to the homeless community.

Like thousands of high school seniors across the country, 18-year-old Yasmine Protho excitedly donned her cap, gown, and mask as she prepared to graduate. On May 15, 2020, in Cusseta, Georgia, Yasmine would be only one of nine other classmates participating with limited family members in attendance, this was not your traditional ceremony. Yasmine proudly wore a custom made protective face mask with a printed photo of herself.
